2021 In Review

This year has been one hell of a year.

Lockdowns with high-profile commissions.

Severe health issues with huge career leaps forward.

Out-of-the-blue accolades with feeling like I'm not actually doing very much…

A women of mixed heritage in a yellow jumpsuit stands by a still lake, her reflection mirrored like glass

But when I look back, truly look back over the year:

I see me, being my true self, and living my true life.

So here is my 2021 Year In Review…

Clients

  1. I received BBC Radio 3's flagship commission for International Women's Day. Producer, Olwen Fisher, who commissioned me, said of the music: 'It is a piece of such power and beauty that it took my breath away.’

  2. I worked with the fantastic Tutti Frutti Theatre Company to create the scores for two of their digitised book reading films for young children

  3. Anti-Racist Cumbria released their teaser trailer this autumn (scored by myself to animation by Plus 3k Animation Studios), with the final film out in March 2022

  4. Oxford Lieder Festival & Jess Dandy - I created the song 'Of Earth and Sky' for Jess's exquisite contralto voice, which premiered in October.

  5. Raising Aniya - I love this film and I can't wait to score it in its entirety in 2022.

Projects & Residencies

  1. Poet Jo Brandon and I joined the Wild Plum Arts 'Made At The Red House' residency at the end of August. We were working on our new album of songs that is generously funded by PRS Foundation. The album explores stories of legendary women throughout the ages who used eccentricities and other tools to break free of their societal chains and live the life they needed to. Out in 2022

  2. #WriteUsIntoHistory is a new project that I am working on with Katie Beardsworth (Founder and CEO of Polyphony Arts), which looks at protecting and promoting the legacies of underrepresented composers working today. Our big aim? To change the entire canon of Classical Music so that it actively represents the composers creating today and in the future, and to provide role models for the next generation.

Publishing

  1. I self-published fourteen of my scores and have sold them to Music Conservatoires across the UK, including Guildhall School of Music & Drama, University of Cambridge, Trinity Laban, Leeds Conservatoire, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and the British Library.

  2. I bloody love writing for voice, and so I have a good collection of vocal scores for sale - CLICK HERE!

Podcast - Beyond The Chameleon

  1. We completed Season 1! It near killed me, but it was so worth it.

  2. Season 2, created with a longer timeline and more support, is set to launch in early January 2022! I have eight episodes recorded already and a long list of people on my wish list!

Press

  1. I was quoted in The Hollywood Reporter as part of the article #MeToo missed us - Female Composers Speak Out

Accolades

  1. This year I was invited to the Women of The Year Lunch

  2. I became an Ambassador for Donne - Women in Music

If you are a change-maker and are looking for extraordinary music for extraordinary stories in 2022, then let's chat.
