Review: Breake of Day
The following review is by singer Clare Eccles, Soprano
Song
Breake of Day.
Overall feel
Lyrical, free.
How it feels to sing with the accompaniment
It is worth knowing exactly how your quavers tie together with the piano. When you have analysed your vocal line it makes so much more sense to look at both rhythms together to see where you join. This way you can find the original freedom intended.
How do the words feel under the tongue
Light and flowing. I like the 5/4 sections the best as you can be very broad and playful.
How to describe the Character of the song
Intense, Eccentric and Mischievous. The speaker contemplates how her man is gone by daylight to do his ‘business.’ The work of the man interferes with their love and she is unable to love him fully.
A Classical Soprano, singing teacher and community musician based in Ulverston, South Cumbria, Clare studied music at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (M.Mus 2018), the University of Leeds (B.Mus 2012) and the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln.
