Review: This Little Rose

The following review is by singer Clare Eccles, Soprano

Song

This Little Rose

Tessitura of the song

I sing this in G minor instead as I found the ‘Ah’ section sat a little better in my voice.

Overall feel

Lilting, flowing, lyrical, poignant, with a timeless quality about it.

How it feels to sing with the accompaniment

It is worth taking time to get the right feel of the piano motif against the vocal line. If set up properly this allows for the most freedom later in the piece.

How do the words feel under the tongue

The word ‘butterfly’ is beautifully set on numerous occasions with and echoes the emotion superbly. I particularly enjoy how Ella had set rhythm in the ‘Ah’ section in the middle. It fits so beautifully in the voice and allows you to soar and really emote.

How to describe the Character of the song

contemplative, philosophical
